Evee, Movement Coach

About me

Hi, I'm Evee.

Movement coach, storyteller, artist — and a Bay Area transplant who never looked back.

My name is Yvette, but everyone calls me Evee. I'm a Los Angeles native who fell in love with the Bay Area and planted roots here. I bring every chapter of my life — dance, Pilates, fitness, academia, the arts, and even my chronic pain — into the work I do with my clients.

My story

I've been dancing since I was 4 years old. Movement has always been my first language. I earned my B.F.A. in Dance Theater from AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and through dance, I first fell in love with Pilates—I began a training program at my local community college in 2017.

At that time, I was also a lead instructor and assistant manager at a Ballroom and Social Dance Studio. Then the pandemic changed everything. During the stay-at-home order, I channeled that energy into becoming a certified Group Fitness Coach and Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

In spring 2021, I was invited to move to Oakland for six months to join In Lak'ech Dance Academy as an assistant and dancer. I fell in love with the Bay Area — and never left. That was almost five years ago.

Since then, I've been a coach at IBX Fitness in Albany, then their general manager, and later their first head coach. I also spent time at what was Mills College (now Northeastern University, Oakland), moving from assistant in the Department of Student Life to Assistant Director of Facilities for Campus Sports and Recreation.

Most recently, I decided to leave that role and return to fitness full-time — because coaching is where I feel most fulfilled. Moving between spaces and working with a wide range of clients gives my ADHD brain the joy it so craves.

I still teach dance — mostly wedding dances, but other forms of social dance too — and I perform from time to time, staying active in the arts spaces I love. For the past three years, I've been trained in and instructing a modern Pilates method called Slow Resistance Training (SRT). I'm currently completing my Mat Pilates Certification under BASI Pilates, and I'm an Active Life Professional Candidate, working through a rigorous program that bridges healthcare and fitness under the scope of a personal trainer.

I call myself a movement coach because, in my opinion, being a personal trainer isn't enough. I bring my education and experience wherever I go.  With my education and work experience, I also bring an accessible lens to care for chronic pain from my own lived experience. In college when I sprained my back during a dance show I learned that not only do I have scoliosis, but I have two hemi-vertbrae in my thoracic spine. The doctors were a bit shocked that my posture looked so aligned at a first glance, but also assessed me and found lots of muscular strength imbalances that have supported my spine all these years. They of course told me I should probably stop dancing and that I could get a corrective surgery and put metal rods in my back. I opted out of having surgery and found alternative medicine to support with my healing journey then went back to dancing.  15 years later, I'm still dancing, moving and grooving through life. Yes, I live with daily chronic pain and see healthcare and wellness practioners for the as needed support but I've learned that movement is the medicine of my life at its core. Being able to learn from my own experiences continues to support me in how I show up with my clients and how I can train others to listen to their own bodies. I will note, that if something is not within my scope of practice I will always refer clients out to meet with a healthcare provider to support needs that I cannot meet.

How I show up

As an artist and movement coach, I show up knowing our bodies are telling our stories. Your lived experiences are important pathways to your goals.

1

Assess

We start by truly seeing where you are — physically, mentally, and in your relationship with movement. No assumptions, no shortcuts.

2

Develop

Together we build a practice that meets your body and your life. Intentional, progressive, and rooted in what actually works for you.

3

Ascend

You grow. Your goals evolve. I'm here to push you in the ways you need — with accountability, care, and the education to back it up.

4

Freedom

The goal is a life fully lived outside our sessions. Movement that supports you everywhere, not just in the gym.

This is a collaboration

My hope is that working with me will support you in the steps you need to live your fullest lives outside our sessions. I show up with accountability, care, drive, and the education to meet you where you're at each session. My job is to hear you, to see you, and to push you in the ways that you need. Your feedback is vital to how we continue forward each week.
